Las Pizarras Bistro

Las Pizarras is a small bistro-style restaurant near Plaza Italia.   Although seating can be a little tight, the atmosphere inside is quite nice.   There are high ceilings, and the menu is written on different blackboards that are hanging on the walls.

The menu is quite different than anything you will find in Buenos Aires.   For main courses, we had a braised pork flank, which was so tender it practically fell apart.  It was topped with a strong, flavorful  jus, and served with sweet potato fries.  The dish was delicious, and a good size, if perhaps a bit large.  Our other main course were raviolis filled with corn, butter, and herbs.   The corn and butter were the main flavors, but the raviolis were surprisingly tasty.

For dessert we had a Passion Fruit crème brulee, which was surprisingly light for a crème brulee.  It was very nice, and you could really taste the pulp of the passion fruit.

Perhaps the best part of the night were the prices.   Out entrées were $37 pesos for the pork, and $31 for the pasta.  The wine menu was limited, but had decent selection, and we were able to get a decent wine for $27 pesos.

Service was a little distracted, and our fresh baked bread (excellent) didn´t come until we received our main courses.   However,  it was friendly, and we didn´t have any serious problems.  Right before we left, the chef must have thought we looked unhappy (which was not the case), because he came over and asked if everything was alright.  This was a nice touch, and we left on la very happy note.

Bottom Line:  Great price/quality ratio, nice atmosphere and a unique menu.
