La Lechuza

When translated to English, the term “lechuza” means Owl.  A weird name for a restaurant if you ask me, but why it has that name becomes more evident once you enter the restaurant.  Through the entrance and around to the left is a wall dedicated to art of Owls – paintings, drawings, sketches etc, some colorful simple drawings, others that look more like professional pieces.  It makes for an interesting atmosphere, and although nothing amazing, it is certainly unique.

What really sets La Lechuza apart from other parillas is the price/quality ratio of their food.  You can get a piece of entraña for only $20 pesos, and half a bife de chorizo for only $25, and believe me, its plenty for one person.   These prices are very low, especially for Palermo, but even better is the quality of the meat.  I had a bife de chorizo, and it was fairly tender, very flavorful, and although not the best steak I´ve had in Buenos Aires, it was very good.

We also had an order of fries, which were potatoes cut into round slices, and were very good, nice and crispy.  Before the food came, we were also served their famous parmesan bread, which is a thin bread, toasted and served with parmesan cheese on top….it was to die for, and the difficult part was holding back to save room for dinner.

Service was very friendly but also very slow.  The restaurant is very popular, frequented by locals, so you may have to wait for a table.  If you are looking for a great every day parilla, this is one of the best you’ll find in the area.

Bottom Line: One of the best valued parilla restaurants in Palermo.   Perfect when you’re aching for a great steak.
