Fuerza Bruta

Entertainment — By Ashley Barnes on August 30, 2010 at 2:31 am

What happens when the colorful visions of an Argentinean theatre director is released from the streets of Buenos Aires and planted in the mid-western city of Chicago, Illinois? A mix of wide-eyed north Americans combined with the altering of a once elegant theatre into an array of disco lights, thumping club music and blinding colors that can leave a local Chicago dweller questioning how much he drank or rather, what he drank at the pub down the street before attending the nights theatre selection of, Fuerzabruta. Straight from Buenos Aires to the Chicago stage, the vision of artistic director and Argentinean creator, Dique James, represents the passionate and creative theatre scene that tends to be the norm in Buenos Aires. As spectators stand on the stage and observe the play, which occurs above them, around them, and between them, it is a challenge to distinguish the difference between a nightclub and an energetic piece of performance art. Complete with a lack of dialogue, vibrant energy, a pool that descends from overhead, gripping dance performances, and ending with the feeling of bewilderment, Fuerzabruta, leaves one with no choice but to stand-up, look-up, and soak-up the unique creations of Buenos Aires.
